Direct Speech

Definition:

The reporting of speech by repeating the actual words of a speaker, for example ‘I'm going,’ she said.

  • Direct speech uses the extract words of the speaker 
  • it is indicated by inverted commas
  • NSNL (New speaker new line)
  • 2 parts 
  • 1) introductory verb followed by a comma 
  • 2) actual words spoken are in quotation marks and start with a capital letter.
