Definition:
The reporting of speech by repeating the actual words of a speaker, for example ‘I'm going,’ she said.
- Direct speech uses the extract words of the speaker
- it is indicated by inverted commas
- NSNL (New speaker new line)
- 2 parts
- 1) introductory verb followed by a comma
- 2) actual words spoken are in quotation marks and start with a capital letter.
